3 Tips for Overcoming Procrastination from a Reformed Procrastinator
You know that feeling when something tiny is living rent-free in your brain?
Like... the stamps I kept meaning to buy.
Let me backup for a sec…
A few months ago, I got a Cricut machine (a very grown-up art toy) and started making DIY printed T-shirts and stickers.
To the surprise of no one, I immediately became obsessed with the creative and calming ritual of designing the graphics in Canva, feeding it into the machine, weeding out the little bits of vinyl by hand, and then lovingly pressing each piece onto a shirt.
I even made sparkly stickers for my Bowl Club friends, and because I can’t help myself, I mailed them out with little handwritten love notes like the magical fairy princess that I am. 🧚🏻♀️
And then… during the PEAK of sticker production… I ran out of stamps.
What should’ve been a 5-minute errand suddenly turned into this impossible task I avoided for two whole weeks. 🙈
I drove past the post office probably 10 times, but never once had a spare second to stop in.
It became another to-do on my list of annoying little tasks including:
Dropping off a package at the UPS store
Taking my watch to the jeweler for a new battery
And picking up my dry cleaning (that I’d been called about 10x already)
This, plus the stamps, just sat in my head like this big, invisible cloud weighing me down. 🌧
Then yesterday, with a little gap in my schedule, and a desire to get out of the house, I went and actually did the things.
And it took… 45 minutes.
Total.
In the glow of my accomplishments, I couldn’t help but laugh.
Stunned by the ease and simplicity of the tasks I dragged my feet over for weeks.
I remembered that the only thing actually in my way, was me.
And the mental load I let myself carry for weeks, could have been avoided in a fraction of the time I spend staring at a screen each day.
So, here’s a little nudge of encouragement this week:
👉 Pick one thing you’ve been procrastinating.
👉 Turn off your phone (and your TV)
👉 Give it one focused hour.
👉 And just… do it.
You’ll be amazed at how much lighter you feel. Like you got your energy back. Like you’ve cleared a bit of space, mentally and energetically, to let something good in. 🪴
Because yes it’s true that good things take time... but not that much time.
Here’s your loving reminder to get out of your head and back into your body, and trust that it knows the way.
You can do it ❤️
